The Perfection Factor

I have been in the wellness space for over a decade. When I joined, I just needed answers that weren’t coming from the current standards I was in contact with. I am so beyond grateful that I found so many answers.

As I have taken a deeper dive and love into the wellness space I am finding the “perfection factor”. You know what I am talking about….the perfect diet, the perfect clean eating menu, the perfect water, the perfect workout, and the list goes on and on.

I have spent many years striving for that perfection and falling so short, some would say I never got started.

As I have redirected my main career focus back to flying, the perfectionism still remains. It’s been there for as long as I have been flying so I won’t dive into that space.

Because of the shift, my strive for all the perfect wellness practices have slid even more than their imperfect attempts. My current list of falling off the perfection wagon…

I am back to drinking soda.

I switched back to a store bought antiperspirant.

I eat the crew meals provided which aren’t organic or clean I am sure.

I use hotel soaps.

I drink water out plastic water bottles when I am on the road.

For the last few years, I have secretly beat myself up that I could’t pack all the things into my roller board and flight bag. With each trip, each ounce my work luggage gets lighter, the shame releases. I really love carrying a much lighter bag up a flight of stairs a couple of times in the middle of the night.

That physical weight of my bag is leading to me dropping the emotional baggage that I swear feels heavier.

As I let myself truly enjoy a Diet Coke…yes I know chemicals, artificial everything…..I find myself reducing stress on my mind. I don’t have to imagine my plain water with that crispiness of my Diet Coke. I get a hit of sweetness so I am craving less desserts.

You might be reading this…and I thank you for doing so….and thinking, what a silly woman. But think about something you don’t so anymore that gave you a little joy and relief from the crazy world we live in? In moderation, was it hurting you?

If you give yourself that 20% wiggle room to just drink the Diet Coke or having the milk chocolate, or fast food, but spend 80% making good choices, could you still be happy? I get you won’t be the fastest growing influencer on IG or even drop the weight as record speed but will you feel better overall?

I know I am feeling better and striving to figure out what the true balance is really like. I wish the same of you.
